One month - Gratitude

Wow, I can’t believe it’s already the end of January! This month has really flown by. I am very grateful to be a small business owner, it’s always been a dream of mine to one day work for myself and run my own company. Since today is my one month mark of owning South End Kitchens, I thought I would tell you about how I became the designer for South End Kitchens.

It’s crazy to think that this time last year I was job hunting. We’ve all been there, one day it’s going well then the next it's not. I would find an awesome job listing that aligned with my previous work experience while furthering my career, I would apply but then nothing. I did have the disadvantage of applying to jobs in a city I didn’t live in, so a few times I took a Friday off to come up to Charlotte and give my resume to potential employers.

One Friday in February, when I was leaving a business, I passed the Wolf Sub Zero showroom. I paused and decided I should take a chance and ask if they worked with any design companies or knew of anyone hiring within the design field in Charlotte. After getting a mini-tour of the showroom, and tasting a delicious dessert made by their in-house chef, I was given the Wolf Sub Zero trade representative’s contact. I end up reaching out to her via email and her response was filled with joy that I contacted her, excitement for me, and support. In the body of her email, she listed 8 of the more well-known cabinet design firms in the Charlotte area. I got to work and emailed all 8 companies my resume and cover letter. I end up interviewing with South End Kitchens a few weeks later and the rest is history.

About a month after I started working, I had lunch with the trade representative so that I could thank her in person. Looking back, it’s wild knowing it was by chance that I walked into the Wolf showroom and then was pointed in the direction of South End Kitchens. I am proud of myself for not giving up through the job search process and thankful that kind people were willing to help me get what I wanted. I am very happy and fortunate to be where I am today and I hope that one day I can repay all the favors and kindness I received to someone in need.
